Exciting Progress Update on the Scanlon Creek Nature Centre!

We’re thrilled to share the latest developments on our journey to bring the new Nature Centre at Scanlon Creek Conservation Area to life. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and budget adjustments due to construction costs, we’re forging ahead with determination and passion.

As we wrap up the detailed design stage, we’re pleased to report that the project construction is slated to begin in 2024. We’re aiming to complete the new Nature Centre and open for programming by the end of 2025.

Thanks to the incredible support from our community and partners, including the generous contributions from Infrastructure Canada’s Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program and major donor Paul Sadlon, we’ve made significant strides over the past few years.

With a strong commitment to education, inclusivity, and sustainability, the Nature Centre is being designed to be fully accessible, energy-efficient, and net-zero for carbon emissions. The project manager, Gow Hastings, in partnership with Two Row Architect, an Indigenous-owned and operated firm from the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation and Tkaronto, are incorporating Indigenous values and input into every aspect of the design and construction process.

We’re excited about the opportunities the new Nature Centre will offer, including four classrooms tailored for school-aged students, multi-functional rooms for community programs and professional training sessions, and spaces that reflect Indigenous culture and connection to the land.

As the project moves into the construction phase, we encourage you to find out more about the project at www.scanloncreek.ca.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to supporters like Infrastructure Canada and Paul Sadlon, who have helped us come this far. However, we still face a funding gap of approximately $3.8 million. We’re calling on the private and public sectors to join us in crossing the finish line. Whether through in-kind material donations or financial contributions, your generosity will make a lasting impact on our community and environment.

Please consider donating today to help us build a Nature Centre that will inspire generations to come.

Thank you for your support!
